What is your youth theatre school and what do you specialise in?
We are a youth theatre school based in Doncaster, specialising in singing, dancing, and acting. Our focus is on building confidence, friendships, and musical theatre skills in a fun, supportive environment.
What makes your school different from other theatre schools?
Our approach combines professional-level training in singing, dancing, and acting with a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere. Students perform in live shows on professional stages with high-quality production, making every performance a memorable experience.
What experience do your tutors have?
All our tutors are experienced performers and theatre professionals with a passion for teaching young people. They are DBS-checked and fully trained to deliver safe, fun, and effective sessions.​
Do children need prior experience to join?
No prior experience is required. Whether your child is new to performing or has some experience, we welcome all abilities.
What age groups do you cater for?
We run two classes:
Are children grouped by age or ability?
All mini cast remain together at all times (ages 3-5). All main cast remain together (ages 6-18) when working on large productions, at times students are spilt in smaller groups to focus on specialised skills within a similar age group.
Does my child need previous experience to join?
No you do not need previous experience. Our classes are designed for confidence building, educational training and most of all, fun!
Classes and Training
How often do classes run and how long are sessions?
Mini Cast meets for 1 hour per week, and Main Cast meets for 3 hours per week during term time.
What disciplines are taught?
Main Cast students focus on singing, dancing, and acting, with a focus on improving technique, confidence, and musical theatre skills. Mini Cast work on simpler exercises appropriate for their age, developing confidence and enjoyment of performing.
Do students train in all three disciplines or specialise?
Main Cast students train in all three disciplines. Mini Cast receive an introduction to all three in a fun, age-appropriate way.​
Are there assessments or qualifications?
How many students are in each class?
Classes are kept to a size that allows personal attention and effective teaching, while encouraging teamwork and friendships.
Performance & Shows
How many shows do students perform in each year?
Both Mini and Main Cast perform in two shows each year – one in February and one in July.
Are all students guaranteed a place in performances?
Yes, all students in both classes are included in performances. Main Cast are cast as lead, supporting and ensemble roles, Mini Cast participate as part of the ensemble.
Where do the performances take place?
Performances are held on professional stages at Montgomery Hall in Wath upon Dearne, with professional lighting, sound, and equipment.
Are auditions required?
Main Cast audition as part of their training as they play lead and supporting roles. Role allocation considers age, ability, and attendance, but every student participates in the shows. Mini Cast perform as ensemble members, so no auditions are required.
What support is given to children nervous about performing?
Our tutors focus on building confidence and providing encouragement. Children are supported throughout rehearsals and performances to ensure a positive experience.
Commitment & Expectations
What level of commitment is expected?
Attendance at weekly classes and rehearsals is encouraged to get the most from the programme. Main Cast also have additional time during shows for rehearsals.
What happens if my child misses a session?
We understand that occasional absences happen. While attendance is important for preparation, students can continue to participate and catch up with support from their tutors.
How do you manage behaviour and focus during sessions?
Our tutors create a structured but enjoyable environment. Positive behaviour is encouraged, and children are guided to work as a team and support each other.
Safeguarding & Welfare
What safeguarding measures are in place?
All staff are DBS-checked and trained in safeguarding procedures. We have a clear safeguarding policy to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students.
How are children supervised?
Children are supervised at all times during classes and rehearsals by trained staff.
What if my child has additional needs or requires extra support?
Please contact us to discuss your child’s individual requirements. We are committed to making classes accessible and supportive for all students.
Venues & Facilities
Where are classes held?
Classes are held at The Harpham Company - Youth Theatre School, Main Street, Sprotbrough, DN57RH.
Is the venue safe?
Yes. Our are risk-assessed and maintained, with suitable facilities for children and parents.
Uniform, Clothing & Equipment
What should children wear?
For taster sessions, children can wear comfortable clothing of their choice. After joining, a uniform is required, which can be purchased via our website. Suitable footwear for movement is also recommended.
Are costumes provided for performances?
Yes, costumes are provided as part of the production at no additional cost and stay within our costume department.
Fees & Payments
How much does it cost to join?
Fees are set according to class and are payable by direct debit, which is arranged when signing up. Full details are available on our website. Mini Cast are £31.50 per month and Main Cast are £77.00 per month. Fees are paid via Direct Debit only, across the whole year (12 months). You can cancel you Direct Debit, however a 1 month written notice is required.
Are there additional costs for performances?
All production costs, including costumes and venue hire, are included in the monthly direct debit. There are no hidden fees. Ticket purchases for audience members are separate.
Is there a refund policy?
Details of our refund policy are provided on enrolment. Please contact us if you have questions regarding payments.
Progression & Opportunities
Will my child receive feedback on their progress?
Yes, our tutors provide regular encouragement and guidance, helping children to build confidence, refine their technique, and develop as performers.
Are there opportunities for more advanced training?
Students can continue in Main Cast as they develop. We support their enjoyment and growth, with a focus on fun rather than exams or qualifications.
Joining & Trials
How can my child join?
Children can join by enroling via our website. We welcome new students at the start of each term. We may take up to 48hrs to reply.
Do you offer trial sessions?
Yes. Taster sessions are available for children to experience a class before committing. Children can wear comfortable clothing for the taster.
Can children join mid-term?
Yes, new students are welcome mid-term, subject to space availability and when the next show performance will be.
